Learners go green for mental health awareness
Richards Bay Christian School learners dressed in 'fun' green attire for their #HowAreYou campaign
ADDING a dash of colour and creative flair to their mental health awareness walk, Richards Bay Christian School learners dressed in ‘fun’ green attire for their #HowAreYou campaign on Friday.
Led by the school’s public speaking team, Grade 8 to 12 learners participated in the awareness walk which aimed to create awareness on mental health and provide insight on mental health issues which people experience daily but often suffer with in silence.

As high school students are often affected by mental illnesses such as depression and anxiety without having any point of reference or support, the public speaking team decided it was time for things to change.

They wanted people to be aware of these conditions and not treat them as abnormal or unworthy of the same attention as other problems within the community.

The walk aimed to inform learners that these could be just phases in their lives and they should not feel they need to hide these struggles, which many go through subconsciously on a daily basis.
Through awareness, they hoped to impact the community positively and help people understand that they are not alone.

The walk culminated with a picnic at the Richards Bay Christian School Pre-School field where learners enjoyed good food, music and networking with each other.
