Thuthukani leads the way
Thuthukani's trainers focused on differentiation of learners with special educational needs in the classroom
THUTHUKANI Special School added another feather to its cap after receiving an award from the district’s Education Department for the school management team’s work in support of the department’s district training for Screening Identification Assessment and Support (SIAS) programme.
SIAS is a policy that will be used by all schools to assist pupils who experience learning barriers.
Thuthukani’s trainers focused on differentiation of learners with special educational needs in the classroom.
Acting Deputy Principal, Tanya Girvin, said it was an honour to work on the project as the team brings a wealth of knowledge to the school and they are always willing to share their expertise with other schools in the area.
‘Under the capable leadership and mentorship of our Principal Marthie Combrinck, we are each challenged to keep on improving our knowledge and skills in special needs education.
‘We are happy to have assisted our district with the roll out of SIAS and we know that this will improve the lives and educational careers of all our children,’ said Girvin.
On the sport front, Thuthukani also received the Ngwelezana Ward Award for excellence in sport, as learners are excelling in sport at all levels with coaches working extremely hard to ensure that each learner is given the opportunity to excel.
