Mtubatuba teen drowns at St Lucia beach
Swimming is not recommended at St Lucia beaches
EASTER Weekend ended in tragedy for a Mtubatuba mother whose 19-year-old son on Monday went missing, presumed drowned, at St Lucia’s Jabula Beach.
Zenzile Thenjiwe Mlungwana of the Nkodibe area was enjoying a day out at the beach with her four children when the drowning occurred.
After lunch, Mxolise and his brothers Zamani and Samkelo went for a swim.
Mxolisi, who is in Grade 12 at Nkombose High School, was swept far out by the strong currents.

Visibly struggling, Mxolisi could not make it back to shore and his brother Samkelo ran to tell their mother.
Standing on the beach, Zenzile could see her son far out at sea, but was unable to do anything to help him.
The police were alerted and police divers arrived at about 4.30pm but could not find the body.
Mtubatuba SAPS urge all beachgoers to be vigilant when at the beach, and to read the warning signs before swimming.
St Lucia’s beaches do not have lifeguards and swimming is not recommended owing to the strong currents.
