Siyabonga Sangweni tournament to be bigger and better

This was the assurance given by uMfolozi Municipal Mayor, Cllr Smangaliso Mgenge

THE Siyabonga Sangweni Tournament, which aims to develop local sporting talent in the region, will be bigger and better this year.

This was the assurance given by uMfolozi Municipal Mayor, Cllr Smangaliso Mgenge.

Speaking at the launch of the fifth edition of the Siyabonga Sangweni Games, Mgenge said as a municipality they remain focused on promoting sport from all the wards that make up uMfolozi Municipality.

‘This year, the tournament that honours the former Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana defender, will take four days.

‘This means the tourney will extend from 28 June to 1 July, when members of the community throughout the district will enjoy watching the different games.

‘We will also bring legends from our province to promote soccer, especially for our youth.

‘Our aim is to produce many Siyabonga Sangwenis of this world. We will also include an Intombi Programme this year, which will encourage young women to believe in themselves,’ he said.
