Cricket season ends on a high

The local side had a roller coaster season but managed to end in the top half of the log and produce a number of provincial players and two national players

THE RH Construction King Cetshwayo cricket squad managed by Brian ‘Fuzzy’ van Aswegen and captained by Jason Redinger ended their 2017/2018 season off on a high note after beating Clares by three wickets in a Premier League match played at Addison Park on Sunday.

Speed merchant Neill Jordan and all-rounder Ruan Janse van Rensburg were both selected for the South African Rural Cricket side with Fuzzy van Aswegen selected to manage the side.

Durban based team, Clares marched out to the middle first and managed a dismal 88 runs in 36 overs.

This minimal tally was recorded thanks to a stand-out bowling performance from Jordan who ended with figures of 4/24 in 10.

With spinner Chad Neuhoff (2/14 in 10) making life difficult at the other end, it’s only understandable why the visitors were skittled for such a low tally.

The home team managed to reach 89 for the loss of seven wickets in the 37th over, thanks to contributions from Josh Rencken (18), Zakele Ntuli (15) and Stephan Joubert (13).

Clares would have thought that they were in for a chance at a stage, when the scoreboard read 68/6.

But some lower order batting managed to save the day and hand the local lads a good victory.
