College welders show their mettle

The aim of the initiative is to encourage students to excel in class, to inspire them to start their own businesses and to give back to the community

Two newly qualified welders who recently completed their six-week training course at Umfolozi TVET College, each walked away with a welding machine after finishing top of their class.

The aim of the initiative is to encourage students to excel in class, to inspire them to start their own businesses and to give back to the community.

One of the winners, Mduduzi Masinga, said he was ecstatic to have been awarded the machine, while the second winner, Goodman Msimanga, cried tears of joy.

‘This is a dream come true. I have already organised my tools in the garage at home and will start working from there,’ said Masinga.

‘I cannot wait to start a small business in my hometown in Ulundi where there isn’t much competition,’ said Msimanga.
