Levies increases negate fuel price drop
Despite an expected decrease in fuel prices, tax increases will see motorists paying more
DESPITE international fuel prices retreating slightly in favour of South African fuel users, motorists will not reap the benefits as an increase to both the Road Accident Fund and general fuel levy will see the overall prices of fuel increasing next month.
Petrol is likely to drop to 12 cents a litre, diesel by 18c and illuminating paraffin by 13c, but the additional 52 cents for the fuel levies will push up prices at the pumps.

‘Even though there is a decrease of 12 cents a litre to the basic price of petrol, the overall price will jump by 40c in April because of the levies announced by former Finance Minister Malusi Gigaba in his budget speech in February,’ said the Automobile Association.
