Rugga boys impress at trials

CRUNCHING tackles, busting runs and slick handling was the order of the day at the Rhinos rugby trials at Mick Kelly Park on Saturday.
Despite the local club dropping out of the Premier League to compete in the First Division this season, players were still fired up and gave it their all.
A squad of 40 was selected that will train Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6pm in preparation for their first league game against Hillcrest on Saturday, 24 March.

Players were first put through their paces, completing a series of warm-up drills before competing in four 25-minute ‘chukkas’.
Rhinos coaches Charles Mndaweni and Kobus Wernich were impressed with the turnout and skills produced.
‘We are happy with today’s proceedings and will look to select a balanced squad that can develop and improve as the season progresses to achieve the goals that we have set,’ said Wernich.
