Teachers warned on haircut issue
The spokesperson of Ebuhleni Nazareth Baptist Church, Thokozani Mncwabe, said they are very saddened that there are some teachers of public schools who still discriminate against learners for their religious beliefs
NAZARETH Baptist Church officials are disappointed about the ill-treatment directed at pupils who are the members of this group.
The spokesperson of Ebuhleni Nazareth Baptist Church, Thokozani Mncwabe, said they are very saddened that there are some teachers of public schools who still discriminate against learners for their religious beliefs.
This after three local Grade 10 learners were suspended after they refused to cut their hair.
‘Beside their mistreatment, we find it very strange they even suggest that our leader, Inkosi Unyazilwezulu should build his own school and come to teach these learners.

‘We are also tax payers,’ said Mncwabe.
‘We thank the intervention of the Nazareth Judiciary Committee (NJC) for fighting against this unjust treatment,’ said Mncwabe.
KZN Department of Education spokesperson, Sihle Mlotshwa said the department was governed by the constitution of the country.
‘Everybody is free to practice his religion and beliefs according to the constitution of this country, so it is against the law to force learners to cut their hair if it is against their religion.
‘We also know that Nazareth people do not do a haircut; it is their religion so as the department we are against those who are forcing them to cut their hair,’ said Mlotshwa.
‘They are professionals and should have known what is right and wrong.
‘If parents decide to take them to court, teachers must know they are on their own, we don’t represent them in court,’ said Mlotshwa.
The Nazareth Judiciary Committee, Chairman Willington Myeni, said they have had a spate of complaints from the community and some cases have been taken to court.
