Justice system frustrates police

A NUMBER of police members, who spoke to the ZO on condition of anonymity, said they are growing tired of having to rearrest suspects who are continually granted bail.
They cite the example of notorious hijacker Bongani Magubane, who has been linked to several cases over the years.
According to the police, Magubane was convicted of robbery with aggravated circumstances and sentenced to imprisonment in December 2004.
He was released on parole in December 2015.

He was again arrested in July last year after police linked him to a series of hijacking cases, but he received bail and was released.
In August last year Magubane was once again arrested on charges of yet another hijacking.
The ZO reported that on 21 August he was denied bail at the Empangeni Regional Court, after which Correctional Services escorted him back to prison.
However the case was soon withdrawn because technically he still complied with his parole conditions.
Another arrest followed for hijacking and he was again released on bail.
He appeared in the Empangeni Regional Court last Tuesday and will make his next appearance on 5 April.
Meanwhile police linked Magubane, via fingerprint identification, to an armed robbery committed in Richards Bay, but must now wait patiently for current court proceedings to finish before they can arrest him for the robbery.
