GOOD news for pool players young and old is that the sport is undergoing a revival in the area and there is plenty of opportunity to play at social or competitive level.
A strong contingent of Richards Bay fundis recently represented KZN Blackball Cuesport at the 2017/2018 SA National Blackball Championships in the Big Top Arena at Carnival City in Brakpan.
Gona Govender (Masters), Lena Botha, Lezanne Oosthuizen (women), Jeremy Yenkiah (men’s Open) and Kris Pillay (Open Singles) joined more than 600 participants from all nine provinces and fared well in their categories, while also gaining a tremendous amount of experience participating at the highest level.
They are more than ready to plough their knowledge back at local level.
League pool is played on Tuesday nights on a home and away format, with the main venue being Legends Pools Hall in Alton.
Venue owner Jeremy Yenkiah has promised all pool players an exciting year of pool, with the introduction of a lot more competitions.
‘Novice, junior and women’s leagues are also planned for this year, depending on the number of players who show interest,’ said Jeremy.
‘If you feel that you don’t want to compete with the seasoned league players, you can join the social league.
‘Juniors (U18) who feel intimidated playing against adults will have their own schools league.
Interested schools are requested to make contact with the organisers (details below).
‘Don’t despair if you don’t have a team but want to participate in the league. Just pop in at Legends and complete the registration form and you will be allocated to a team.’
Any person wanting to join one of the fastest growing sports in the world can contact Gona Govender on 084 7049575), Jeremy Yenkiah on 081 7654427 or Kris Pillay on 074 8602261.
