Department of Health launches PrEP at Unizulu

THE MEC for Health, Dr Sibongiseni Dhlomo launched a Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) at Unizulu on Friday.
Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is an HIV prevention strategy where HIV negative people take medications daily to prevent them from becoming positive if they are exposed to the virus.
Speaking during the launch, Dhlomo said that the PrEP is promoted by the World Health Organisation as a lifesaving treatment.
Dhlomo added that it is now in the nation’s interest and the duty of everyone to decrease new HIV infections especially in adolescent girls, and to decrease teen pregnancies as the level of HIV-incidents among adolescents and young people is very high.
