YOUNG local surfers have the opportunity to enter a sponsored SA competition – but time is of the essence.

The South African ‘Grom Games’ is an inter-district national surfing competition for development surfers new to competition, presented by Sea Harvest.

This yea’rs event will take place from 21 to 25 March at Pollock Beach, Port Elizabeth, featuring boys and girls in the following age divisions: U8, U10, U12, U14 and U16.

The SA Grommet Games began as the Development Championships and was introduced to South African surfing culture after unification in 1991 as part of surfing’s commitment to transformation and development.

The objective of the event in 1991 was to give young surfers from different backgrounds, communities and cultures the opportunity to participate in a an event that not only had a competitive element, but also focused on fun and camaraderie.

Any young surfers from Zululand keen to participate in the event need to contact Anton Knoetze on 083 6517017 as soon as possible.

Parents will need to make the trip to Port Elizabeth to accompany their kids and note that travel and accommodation costs need to be paid by contestants.
