Destructive Van Rooyen canes the students
The students won the toss and elected to bat first on a concrete wicket and just never got going
MANCOSA Empangeni Rugby Club medium pacer Willie van Rooyen recorded his career best bowling figures of 5/16 in 6 overs during a second division club cricket match against the University of Zululand at Mick Kelly Park on Saturday.
The right-handed seam bowler ripped through the students’ batting line-up, which resulted in Unizulu folding to a dismal tally of 71 all out in 16 overs.
The students won the toss and elected to bat first on a concrete wicket and just never got going.
Siyanda Madela top-scored for his side with 26.
Empangeni Rugby Club cruised to 72/2 in the 14th over to pick up a comprehensive eight wicket victory.
Carel Swart’s unbeaten innings of 21 off seven balls, which included two sixes and one four, did the bulk of the damage.
The local rugby club is on a roll, having bagged the second division T20 title earlier this season and currently unbeaten.
