Suspect nabbed after three-hour city cat-and-mouse chase

IT was a morning of commotion in the vicinity of Empangeni’s Fiddlewood Drive on Wednesday as residents, police and Vandamme Security officials chased a robbery suspect for almost three hours.

Residents saw the suspect attempting to break into a home at about 9am.

The hunt was on as the suspect scaled fences and evaded his pursuers until he was eventually cornered shortly before noon.

A small crowd of residents gathered as police and security personnel questioned the suspect in the yard in which he had been caught in Fiddlewood Drive.

Police confirmed that he had been found in possession of what is presumed to be stolen property.

A case of attempted housebreaking and theft has been opened.
