DA wants action against city councillor
Video shows heated argument of woman and Cllr Ntanzi
THE Democratic Alliance caucus in the City of uMhlathuze has written a letter to the Speaker, Mfundo Mthenjana, requesting him to take urgent action against Ward 28 Councillor Mandlinyoka Ntanzi.
DA King Cetshwayo Constituency Chairperson, Luyanda Sazi Msane, said they were dismayed by a video making the rounds on social media.
In the video, Cllr Ntanzi is seen having a heated argument with a 67-year-old woman, Thembi Nyawo, over her attendance at a Christmas event organised for the elderly by the City of uMhlathuze in December at the Empangeni Civic Centre.

‘Ntanzi’s behaviour in the video is unacceptable and not in keeping with his oath of office as a councillor.
‘Since neither the ANC nor the City of uMhlathuze has taken any action against Ntanzi, one cannot help but wonder whether they condone this kind of behaviour,’ said Msani.
He said councillors represent not just the people who elected them into office, but are also expected to project an image of good governance.
‘Cllr Ntanzi has tainted the image of the City of uMhlathuze,’ Msane said.
He said they were aware that Nyawo had opened a case with the police and they will be seeking regular updates from the police on progress of the case.
City Communications Manager, Mdu Ncalane, said a letter of complaint was sent to the office of the speaker regarding the conduct of Cllr Ntanzi.
‘The municipality will respond to the DA and deal with the matter accordingly.
‘We are, however, dismayed about how this matter was sensationalised by the DA’s statement.’
