Sea Rescue calls for - and gets - public funding support
THE National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) is inviting citizens to become official shore crew members.
This can be done through small donations by debit order, which will in turn give participants the opportunity to win large monthly prizes.
‘As a regular supporter of the NSRI, you will not only help save many lives, you will also stand five chances of winning R10 000 every month,’ said NSRI Chief Executive, Cleeve Robertson.
‘And you can achieve all this with a minimum monthly donation of only R25 per entry – not bad for such a small investment.
‘Because the NSRI is a non-profit organisation, we rely solely on the generosity of caring people to finance our lifesaving operations.
‘The free services of volunteers enable us to provide help and safety where it is needed and donations take care of craft maintenance and fuel costs, which means that every contribution made goes directly towards our rescue missions.’
Sea Rescue also holds a R100 000 annual draw and donors will automatically be entered in the monthly and annual draws for the duration of their membership

Golfers swing for Sea Rescue
THE local shipping fraternity contributes hugely to the coffers of Sea Rescue Station 19 at Richards Bay.
Thanks to the Island View Shipping annual golf day, more than half-a-million rand has been raised over the past eight years
The golf day was started by John Patlansky of IVS Durban with the assistance of the local IVS office and Voigt Shipping Richards Bay and has brought in the following sums: 2006 – R35 000; 2007 – R60 000; 2008 – R60 000; 2009 – R70 000; 2010 – R72 000; 2011 – R64 420; 2012 – R62 000; 2013 – R92 568.
‘This annual fund-raiser is a major contributor to the annual running costs of our station and we offer or heartfelt thanks for this magnificent act of support,’ said PRO Brynn Gericke.
