Unizulu acts to stop fraudsters

THE University of Zululand (Unizulu) has opened criminal cases against individuals who were allegedly selling academic places to prospective students.
The university said the fraudulent activity was uncovered after affected students alerted the Student Representative Council and campus security.
‘Individuals have sold academic places to students who are desperate to register at the university.
‘These cases have been reported to the police for further investigation and for the law to take its course,’ Unizulu Acting Communications and Marketing Director, Sinegugu Ndlovu, said.

In a video which has surfaced on social media, one of the suspects reportedly caught at the KwaDlangezwa campus is seen holding cash in his hand and is heard confessing to having received the money from prospective students.
Students have been warned not to pay any money to any person. All funds must be paid into the university’s bank account.
‘The university wishes to reiterate its stance of zero tolerance towards all forms of corruption.
‘Banking details can be found on Unizulu’s website and relevant pamphlets which are freely available to students,’ Ndlovu said.
The university further assured staff, students and external stakeholders of its commitment to uphold the highest ethical standards and practices.
