New moves to stabilise NFP
NFP King Cetshwayo interim leader, Gqokubuhle Ngema, said the NEC is the only structure that can unite and revive the NFP
THE National Freedom Party in the King Cetshwayo district has commended the decision of its President, Zanele kaMagwaza-Msibi, to reinstate the disbanded National Executive Committee.
NFP King Cetshwayo interim leader, Gqokubuhle Ngema, said the NEC is the only structure that can unite and revive the NFP.
‘We all know that the ad hoc committee presented to us by the President KaMagwaza-Msibi when she disbanded the NEC in April last year, failed to deliver.
‘Opportunistic leaders within our party connived behind her back and held their secret conferences, to which we were not invited,’ said Ngema.
Last year, the NFP held its KZN elective and national elective conferences, but KaMagwaza-Msibi said both conferences were unconstitutional and refused to recognise the newly elected leaders.
On Saturday, KaMagwaza-Msibi reinstated the disbanded NEC members and gave them a mandate to take the party to the national elective conference in June or July this year.
KaMagwaza-Msibi’s spokesperson, Canaan Mdletshe, told the ZO that when the president took a decision to disband the NEC, NWC and the KZN PEC, some party members took the matter to court, while others opted to hold their own conferences without following proper channels.
‘The president then chose to reinstate the NEC and gave them only one mandate: to take the party to the mid-year conference.
‘The reason for this is to ensure that our internal election is organised by the legitimate and constitutional structure which cannot be challenged in court as some were challenging the ad hoc committee, ’said Mdletshe.
However, the newly elected NFP Deputy President, Sindi Mashinini, said they can’t accept the reinstatement of the previous NEC as they brought the party into disrepute and resigned.
‘There are people who work outside the constitution; we know that they are doing that because they think we will recall them from parliament, which is not true.
‘They are using the name of KaMagwaza-Msibi because they know that she is not well. They have been away for almost two years after failing to take us to the local government elections in 2016.
‘Now they are resurfacing with the aim of destroying our party. We won’t allow that to happen,’ Masinini said.
