King Cetshwayo start new year off with away win

King Cetshwayo sit in good position

RH CONSTRUCTION King Cetshwayo cricket captain Jason Redinger and his men got their second round of the Castle Premier League off to a winning start when they pipped Pinetown by four wickets at Lahee Park on Sunday.

Redinger lead his team’s chase of 134 runs from the front, ending unbeaten on 48.

The home side batted first and was dismissed for 133, thanks mainly to King Cetshwayo bowlers Bruce Tembo, who returned figures of 3/20 in 10 overs, and Redinger, who also collected three scalps for 11 runs in 5.4 overs.

Left-hand spinner Charl Groenewald posted 2/22 in 10, pace bowler Daryn Dupavillon 1/19 in 5 and left-arm orthodox spinner Stephan Joubert 1/17 in 10.

King Cetshwayo’s chase did not get off to a promising start, with the scoreboard at one stage reading 20/3.

But 41-run fourth and fifth wicket partnerships were enough to get the Zululand squad over the line.

Simon Savides (24), Josh Rencken (21) and Joubert (12) were the only other batsmen apart from Redinger to score double figures.

The squad is placed fourth on the log with five home games left in the season, which puts them in the running for a top three finish.

What has been good thus far is the team’s ability to win games away from home.

King Cetshwayo will be away this weekend taking on Delta, before hosting DHS Rhythm on Sunday, 28 January.
