King Cetshwayo District ready for huge school intake
More than 17 500 learners will begin their school careers this week in the King Cetshwayo District
MORE than 17 500 learners will begin their school careers this week in the King Cetshwayo District.
This was revealed by the King Cetshwayo District Director for Education, David Chonco, who told the ZO that the district has recorded a minimum figure of 17 417 Grade Rs who will move into Grade 1.
‘This is the minimum figure as there are always more late registrations ,’ he said.
Chonco said the district is well prepared for the opening of schools on Wednesday and doesn’t foresee any problems.

‘Educators will be back at school today (Monday) and most schools will be fully operational from Wednesday, although some will only open on Thursday.
‘The provincial legislature will visit the district this week to oversee the opening of schools together with our teams, who will ensure that everything runs smoothly and that there are no issues with the curriculum or anything else.
‘A formal meeting with primary and high school principals and vice principals will take place today in Dlangezwa, at which the academic improvement strategy for 2018 will be discussed to promote improved results come the end of the year,’ Chonco added.

And while Wednesday is the official start of school, some matric learners have already been hard at work.
According to Chonco, a number of high schools were operational from as early as 2 January to accommodate committed matric learners keen on getting their 2018 preparations underway.
‘Teaching and learning has already begun at some high schools, who on their own initiatives chose to begin preparation for their matriculants.
‘We commend these learners and teachers on this initiatives,’ he said.
