eNseleni community waits for action

At a meeting at the eNseleni community hall on Sunday, attendees said they feared the crime wave would chase away businesses and even some residents

THE eNseleni community say their campaign last year to address the high levels of crime and domestic violence in the area, has still not delivered positive results.

At a meeting at the eNseleni community hall on Sunday, attendees said they feared the crime wave would chase away businesses and even some residents.

The need for a fully fledged police station with enough police members and vehicles to work in the area was reiterated. They claim the police station they now have is mainly used for making affidavits and certifying documents.

The community is also still waiting for the Empangeni police to increase visibility and patrols to stabilise the area.

Empangeni police spokesman Captain Mbongeni Mdlalose told the ZO they are waiting for a report from province about this issue.

uMhlathuze Municipality said criminal incidents must be reported to the police since it does not deal directly with crime issues.
