Two rushed to hospital after collision with ambulance in Empangeni

TWO people were rushed to Ngwelezana Hospital on Tuesday after an ambulance collided with a car at the Ngwelezana Road and Copper Drive intersection opposite the RTI offices in Empangeni.
According to an eyewitness the ambulance was travelling along Copper Drive heading towards the RTI offices and the car, with two occupants, was on Ngwelezana Road heading towards Ngwelezana when the accident occurred.
Empangeni Cluster Police spokesman, Captain Mbongeni Mdlalose, said it is believed the ambulance drove through a red traffic light.

‘Owing to the impact the ambulance capsized and came to rest on its side, but the driver was not injured.
‘The male driver and female passenger in the car sustained injuries and were rushed to hospital for treatment, ’said Mdlalose.
A case of reckless and negligent driving has been opened.
