A ST LUCIA hippo mortally injured in a fight with another hippo, was on Sunday humanely euthanised by local conservation authorities.
The hippo, with a severe gash to its abdomen, was first spotted by visitors who saw it in the vicinity of Sunset Jetty.
Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife Veterinarian Dr Dave Cooper assessed the animal’s injuries, which he deemed too severe and life-threatening to treat.
The injuries were causing the animal much pain and suffering, so the decision was taken to euthanise it.
