Xtreme riders bail 35km short of target

A STORM put paid to the riders participating in the fourth uBhejane Xtreme MTB Challenge on Saturday.

The riders did, however, raise R380 000 towards Project Rhino and their efforts to stop rhino poaching in KZN.

The ride lived up to its ‘extreme’ tag line as riders battled head winds and heat, forcing the riders to bail 35km short of their target after reaching the Centenary Centre in the iMfolozi Game Reserve.

The ‘voice of cycling’ Phil Liggett, who travelled to iMfolozi Game Reserve to lead the final 35km, did not get to ride, but was full of praise for those who had compeleted their respective distances.

Riders participated in the 340km Long Horn, the 240km Short Horn and 100km Baby Horn.
