Factionalism a threat to IFP stability

District conference elects new leaders

INTERNAL political factions, if given a space to breath, will destroy the IFP.

This warning was issued by outgoing IFP District Chairperson Thamsanqa Ntuli.

Speaking at the party’s King Cetshwayo District conference at the Nkandla Multi-purpose Centre at the weekend, Ntuli said he was disturbed to see foreign tendencies of factionalism playing itself out in a party.

‘The IFP was never built on the foundation of division. This conduct is new and must be condemned in the strongest possible terms.

‘We have noted the use of social networks in which members of the IFP insult one another for no good reason. We are aware that this is conference season for our party, but our level of engagement as comrades cannot be relegated to this volley of insults.

‘Let us resign from the politics of social media and go back to the basics of doing things as the IFP.

‘We can’t afford to see the good work done by our leader, Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi, being eroded so easily.

Buthelezi’s legacy

‘The Prince of KwaPhindangene dedicated his entire life building this party, working tirelessly in ensuring that we deliver to the people of this district, the province and the country as a whole.

‘We all know that Shenge has indicated his retirement as the leader of the party after more than 40 years at the helm. We must then protect his legacy and ensure that he enjoys his retirement without having to look back at the mess we have created by promoting factionalism,’ Ntuli said.

The Mayor of Nkandla Municipality said the IFP should focus on regaining lost ground.

‘We are slowly winning the hearts of the electorate. This has been evident during recent by-elections held in Nquthu, Ndumeni, uMlalazi and in Abaqulusi. We remain on course of bringing back KZN to the IFP in the coming 2019 national general elections

‘In this district alone we have increased the number of our councillors from 65 to 85 in all local municipalities in the King Cetshwayo District,’ said Ntuli, who has been at the helm of the IFP as District Chairperson for three years.

The conference saw the election of new office bearers: Sibusiso Sibiya (Chairperson), Mathomane Dlolwane (Deputy Chairperson), Tobias Gumede (Secretary), Nozipho Nsele (Deputy Secretary), Ivan Naidoo (Treasurer), Thandukwazi Mncube (Deputy Treasurer), Bingani Ngidi (Publicity) and Bongani Zincume (Deputy Publicity).
