WOKEN by a loud bang, a young boy helplessly watched in horror as a male relative was stabbed to death in their home at eNtuze Reserve outside Mtunzini on Monday morning.
Peeping through a crack on the wall, the boy witnessed Sipho Zungu (43) being dragged on the ground and brutally attacked by a group of unknown men soon after midnight.
According to Mtunzini police the assailants, wearing balaclavas, kicked down Zungu’s door and stabbed him 13 times before taking his belongings from the house and tuck shop. Zungu died at the scene.

The police said the young boy attempted to save the victim, but the attackers threatened him with a gun.
‘The victim was selling beer and other goods at his house. We don’t know if the attackers targeted cash from his shop or intended to kill him,’ said Mtunzini Police spokesperson, Captain Sibusiso Guma.
A murder case was opened and a huge police manhunt is underway.
A half-an-hour after Zungu’s murder, a group of men in disguise targeted another homestead in the area and robbed the occupants of their cash and other belongings.
No one was killed in the second incident.
