Support rallied for paralysed local pharmacist

IN October popular Empangeni resident and Manager at uMhlathuze Pharmacy, Kobus van Wyk (41), crashed into a bakkie doing a U-turn close to Empangeni High School.
He was instantly paralysed and remains a quadriplegic.
The community rallied to support his wife Marnet and their two young children, Karlo (14) and Marno (9), while they juggle their work and school lives while visiting their father in Umhlanga Hospital, where he remains in critical care.
He has undergone a spinal fusion, and now the family must prepare him for the time ahead in rehabilitation.
At the moment, Marnet and the boys are having to travel from Empangeni to uMhlanga to see Kobus, which is getting costly.

How can we help?
Friends of Kobus have put their heads together to assist the family during this tough time and have set up a Back A Buddy fund-raising page – www.backabuddy.co.za/champion/ – to raise the funds the family needs for day-to-day expenses, including travelling, toll fees, petrol, accommodation and meals.
In true Zululand style, a good old fashioned bring-and-braai is being held tomorrow (Friday) evening at 6pm at Mick Kelly Park in Empangeni, to raise funds for the family.
There is a fully stocked bar, so one cannot bring any drinks. Bring meat, plates, knives and forks and join in the festivities.
