NRB needs to swoop on Eagles

Vital pre-Christmas fixtures for Richards Bay FC

LET’S hope Christmas comes early for the frustrated Richards Bay FC fans.

Anyone who last Saturday watched Arsenal pound the Manchester United goalmouth with no fewer than 30 shots in the first half, yet go into the dressing room 1-0 behind, will understand what it feels like to be an NRB supporter.

Week after week the match reports look like a cut-and-paste job: plenty of attacking and shots, but nothing to show for it.

Last Saturday’s outing against log leaders Highlands Park was no exception.

For 60 minutes the boys had the better of the game, without any reward – and then came the inevitable conceding of breakaway goals.

I thought new coach Jean-Francois Losciuto got it spot on with his positive starting line-up against the league’s best defenders, who have conceded only seven goals in 13 matches.

Highlands were put under enormous pressure and were lucky to not concede on numerous occasions.

However, NRB did not look as fluent in midfield, where their normal flank-to-flank passing moves that wear out the opposition by making them chase continually, were lacking.

In fact, towards the end of the match the Bay defenders were the ones to run out of steam against fresh legs from the bench.

But the revival of fortunes must come soon and the away game to Super Eagles this Saturday could do the trick.

Eagles are also languishing near the bottom of the table and are there for the taking.

Then it’s a home fixture against Black Leopards on 16 December before the holiday break.

Six points would be a lovely gift in NRB owner Jomo Biyela’s Christmas stocking.
