Tragic passing of Mtubatuba stalwart
People attending his memorial service are asked to not wear black
MTUBATUBA residents are in mourning after the tragic and unexpected passing of a town icon, Douw Steenkamp earlier this week.
Tributes from grief-stricken family and friends of the Steenkamps have been flooding social media, with one common theme – that Douw was an inspiration to all.
Although unrelated to his death, Douw had, in recent months, been making great strides in his cancer treatment, and it was his positive attitude that served as an inspiration to countless others as he documented the course of his treatment.
His life will be celebrated at a service tomorrow (Friday) at 11am at Mtubatuba’s NG Gemeente Kerk.
Those attending are asked to dress casually and not wear black.
A Mtubatuba resident for many years, Douw owned and ran Inyala Security.
He is a former SAPS Lieutenant-Colonel, and studied BA Police Science at UNISA and D.Phill in Criminology at University of Zululand.
A much-loved, well-respected person, Douw will be sorely missed by all who had the honour of calling him a friend.
He is survived by his wife Elouise, daughters Liezl Boshoff and Ilze Steenkamp, and son Estiaan.
