St Lucia’s Sevens star
A St Lucia rugby player is part of the Western Province Rugby Academy Sevens team
BRANDON Asher-Wood, St Lucia’s rugby star, was an integral part of the Western Province Rugby Academy (WPRA) Sevens team recently sent to a Sevens tournament in Singapore.
Already considering a number of offers, both locally and internationally, which will determine his future in the sport, Brandon wowed the Singapore spectators and scouts alike.
After a somewhat rocky start to the tournament, having lost their first two matches 14-17 and 17-21 to Auckland and Sunny Banks, Australia respectively, the WPRA team made it through to the second round on points difference and bonus points, after beating HMS Daring 64-5.
Failing to win their following game, WPRA found themselves in the plate quarter final against Pyrenees 7s, a game they won 26-10.
A winning streak from then on, WPRA were victorious in the plate final, beating the Kenyan Impalas 19-5.
