WATCH: Traffic delays on the John Ross – plan accordingly

MOTORISTS leaving or entering Empangeni via the John Ross Parkway are being urged to plan their times properly as major traffic congestion is expected.

The speed limit in the vicinity of the bridge will be reduced to 40km/h, which will remain in place for the duration of the festive season.

This after a crane, being utilised in the construction of a section of the N2 bridge, has blocked off the eastbound lane towards Richards Bay.

This forms part of the next phase of the Empangeni N2 interchange construction, with the lifting of the bridge support loads commencing this week.

Motorists must note that when support loads are being lifted, all traffic will be filtered onto one carriageway.

This will not be done during peak hours, but will be limited to between 9am and 3pm, and only on days when lifting is being done.

Traffic leaving Empangeni is being diverted onto the oncoming lane before being diverted back just after the bridge interchange.

According to motorists, the backlog of traffic has started to build up as far as Oilco, leaving Empangeni, and just before Tangawizi Motors at the John Ross Eco-Junction, entering Empangeni.
