IN an intelligence-driven operation to flush out illegal firearms, two Ndumo men were recently arrested in possession of an AK47 and a shotgun with 41 rounds of ammunition.
Police officers from the uMhlali K9 Unit, Protection and Security Services, as well as Crime Intelligence conducted a search on two identified homesteads.
They carried out their raid in the early hours one morning when the two suspects, aged 52 and 63, were arrested and the firearms confiscated.
The KZN Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Bheki Langa praised the police officers for their efforts in getting rid of illegal firearms in the uMkhanyakude area.
‘We urge our communities to continue supporting police in fighting crime over this festive season.
‘Citizens are encouraged to actively participate in CPF structures and become more involved in crime prevention within their neighbourhoods.
‘We will only be successful in decreasing crime if we all work together and expose criminals.’
