‘Don’t ruin your uniform’ says MEC
‘Particularly, the disturbing tendency for Grade 12 learners to tear up - and write on - their uniforms on the last day of exams
AS the national matric exams draw to a close, the KZN MEC for Education Mthandeni Dlungwana, wants to caution learners against irresponsible behaviour.
‘Particularly, the disturbing tendency for Grade 12 learners to tear up – and write on – their uniforms on the last day of exams.
‘With our triple challenges of poverty, inequality and unemployment, we cannot afford to have this practice continuing unabated.
‘We want to ask our learners to ensure that on their last day of exams, they donate their uniforms so that those learners who come from poorer families can benefit from them,’ said the MEC.
He also cautioned learners to behave responsibly during the holidays.
‘Learners must conduct themselves in a responsible manner and stay away from irresponsible behaviour.
‘We take a very dim view on the so- called ‘pens down’ events and rave parties at which our learners abuse alcohol and drugs, and which results in some learners being raped,’ he said.
The last paper for the 2017 NSC exams is Agriculture Management Practices, which will be written on Tuesday, 28 November.
