Province on high alert following weather warning

Heavy rains between today and Friday could be experienced across the province

KZN residents, particularly motorists and pedestrians, have been urged to exercise caution in light of severe weather forecast by the South African Weather Service (SAWS).

The weather warning included the possibility of heavy rains between today (Wednesday) and Friday, that could lead to flooding.

The KZN Department of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) MEC, Nomusa Dube-Ncube, urged residents to take heed of the warning.

‘Disaster management teams in the province are ready to deal with any incidents that may occur as a result of bad weather,’ she said.

‘We have activated all disaster centres across all districts for teams to be on standby to assist and work with law enforcement agencies to ensure human lives are protected.

‘The heavy rains that our province experiences cause a lot of damage to vital public infrastructure like roads and bridges.’

Today’s warning comes hot on the heels of recent severe weather which left a trail of destruction across the province, including Zululand.

King Cetshwayo and uMkhanyakude districts are among the areas for which heavy rain is predicted.
