IT is really disturbing to see a school which has served the community for over 30 years literally ‘begging’ parents to pay their children’s school fees.
Yes, children have a right to education but parents also have a responsibility to ensure that school fees are paid.
For those who cannot meet the financial obligation there is an exemption process in place and parents should use this assistance offered by the government.
Richards Bay Secondary School is in a severe financial crisis and parents must step up, take ownership and pay up.
There is no quick fix solution but I am sure if everyone makes a commitment to pay a small amount every month, the school would at least be able to cover their operational costs.
While the school has approached local businesses for assistance, held fund-raisers and even cut back on services, parents are the only ones who can make a difference in the school.
This is also a time for ex-learners to pay it forward and assist the school with their services or time.
