Tired of watching your kids watching cartoons all weekend long?
Watch this space every week for some fresh ideas to keep them entertained – and spend some quality time with their mom!
Design your own treasure map
Unleash your inner pirate – and teach your child some basic geography skills – by designing your own treasure map.
You can base your map on the real layout of your neighbourhood, or design your own fantasy land.
You need a street map as example, paper, pens, pencils or crayons, ribbon or string, a bath tub and some tea.
If you’re designing an island map, start by drawing a coastal outline.
Remember to draw the ocean, ships and sea monsters, or shipwrecks near the beach.

Add mountains, hills, rivers, waterfalls, lakes, forests, or desserts.
Now pepper your imaginary world with magical elements like castles, magic trees, secret tunnels, hidden entrances, trapdoors or caves.
Add a village, farmlands, bridges and roads.
Mark an X where buried treasure lies.
Finish off by naming your island.
Once you’re done, carefully tear around the edges of your map to create a rugged look.
Then soak your map in a strong tea mixture in the bathtub for a few minutes.
Let it air dry, roll it up and secure your treasure map with ribbon or string.
Ye be done!
