POLICE officials who continue to risk their lives during public protests and outbreaks of violence were honoured with Public Order Police Operators badges at the POP unit in Empangeni on Thursday.
The purpose was to give recognition of their public order skills and training after completing a compulsory training course.
The POP unit’s focus is primarily on crowd management and crime prevention operating at provincial and national level.

‘Each of the symbols on the badge has a special meaning to members, their relationship to the unit and the organisation. The badge is designed to be recognised on sight,’ said POP Commander, Colonel AT Slinger.
‘Wearing the badge helps identify the members of the unit. Members wear the badge as a means of recognition, signifying their continuing commitment to the ideals of the unit, section, component, division and organisation.’
