Museum honours ‘KwaGogo’ in Ulundi
Amafa Deputy Director Lindiwe Msomi thanked the museum for meeting its mandate of preserving the country's heritage and educating the younger generation
THE Zulu Cultural Museum at Ondini outside Ulundi on Saturday opened a new exhibition ‘KwaGogo’, which is dedicated to the role of the grandmother.
Speaking at the opening, Amafa Deputy Director Lindiwe Msomi thanked the museum for meeting its mandate of preserving the country’s heritage and educating the younger generation.

She said a gogo was always respected and her place was also where children would bring their problems.
Even in modern times, a rondavel is still built next to the modern home so that the residents can practice their culture.

Children listen to the stories of their ancestors around a fire.
The gogo also facilitates negotiations for marriage and new-born babies are brought for rituals.
Besides various musical items, addresses were also presented by Inkosi uMungose and Amafa Assistant Director Regina van Vuuren.
