MANGETHE residents will be major beneficiaries of a housing development project spearheaded by the Mandeni Municpality.
This was announced by Mandeni Mayor Sphesihle Zulu at an integrated development plan (IDP) meeting at the KwaChili sports field.
Zulu said both Mangethe and Maromeni residents initially did not benefit from the housing project owing to land ownership disputes, but these have now been resolved.
About 500 houses have been completed and handed over to their rightful owners.
The next 500 houses will now be constructed during phase two.
‘We have a huge task of constructing a community hall for ward 2, as well as renovation of the Nyezane and Phumlandoda bridges in ward 8. This entails the reconstruction of the roads from Nyoni to Wangu and from Sakhesethu to the Salvation Army church,’ Zulu said.
Zulu also unveiled progress relating to electrification projects.
‘About 492 units have been electrified in ward 9 as part of the Makhwanini project. The Nyathini electrification project is also underway. Two-hundred and fifty units will receive electricity in ward 1, and 492 households in the Falethu and Mangeza areas in ward 3.
‘About 600 units in ward 2 will receive electricity as the profiling has been completed by Eskom.’
