Tanner Road filth raises serious concerns
The ZO recently met with five business owners who raised issues of littering and unhygienic human waste on their property
A NUMBER of Empangeni business owners on Tanner Road are up in arms over the filth and prostitution in the area.
The ZO recently met with five business owners who raised issues of littering and unhygienic human waste on their property.
One of the main concerns was that of a tavern on their premises which allows people to take liquor out of the building, further encouraging prostitution in the area.
One business owner, who wanted to remain anonymous, told the ZO he is fed up with the amount of filth on his property every morning.
‘My cameras have picked up people having sex just outside my property.
‘People make fires, urinate, defecate and just leave their used condoms and bottles all over the place.

‘Every morning we come to work we have to clean up first and hose the place down. This is ridiculous,’ he said.
Another owner told the ZO that the tavern did not comply with health and safety regulations as it only had one working toilet.
‘Our responsibility in this regard relates to health, hygiene and nuisance issues,’ said King Cetshwayo District Acting Municipal Manager, Ms TF Mguni.
‘Seeing that there is prostitution in the area, the complainant should contact the police to investigate.
‘The legality of the tavern can be verified by the uMhlathuze Licensing Board.’
The local police told the ZO they are aware of prostitution on Tanner Road and are going to deal with the matter.
