Pool party people make waves
A total of 315 swimmers swam the 22nd annual Leomat 1 000m swim
ONE would have thought the Empangeni Municipal Pool was one massive washing machine with all the waves and splashing that took place this weekend at the 22nd annual Leomat 1 000m swim.
Hosted by the Fish Eagles Swimming Club, a total of 41 teams (205 swimmers) and 110 individual entries took part in this prestigious event over Friday and Saturday.
Swimmers of all ages grabbed their cozzies and towels to participate.
Friday evening the action heated up with the team relay swim, which was ‘kept on ice’ thanks to the rain, but Saturday saw sunny skies, which made participants grateful for the cool water.
But it was Evan Weyermuller who literally ran on water to finish with a blistering time of 12:55:12 to claim the fastest male crown, with Angelique Kotze flying to finish her race in 13:14:18 to claim the ladies title.
‘It was great to see so many swimmers coming out this year and supporting our event.
‘We are very happy with the amount of entries and think that this year was a huge success.
‘All funds raised will go towards swimming development in the Zululand area,’ said Fish Eagles PRO Erika du Plessis.
