Raising funds for kids with cancer

Support cupcakes for cancer fundraiser this Saturday at Boardwalk Inkwazi Shopping Centre

SEPTEMBER is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and the national Cupcake Day 4 Kids with Cancer event will be celebrated at 63 malls across the country this Saturday.

In Richards Bay the fund-raiser takes place at the Boardwalk Inkwazi Shopping Centre from 9am.

For a R10 donation one will receive a delicious homemade cupcake as well as a leaflet containing information on early warning signs of childhood cancer. Early detection can save a child’s life.

To mark the occasion, South Africa is also celebrating after claiming the new Guinness World of Records title for the tallest cupcake tower last week in Vereeniging, where a 10.7m tall tower was constructed from a whopping 6 370 cupcakes.

The previous record stood at eight metres and was set up in Dubai last year.

‘It’s all to help very ill children,’ says Cupcakes of Hope founder Sandy Cipriano, whose team works tirelessly to raise money for the families of children with life-threatening diseases.

‘Right now we need to raise R600 000 for stem cell and bone marrow transplants.

‘There are desperately ill children in our network whose families need all the help they can get,’ said Cipriano.
