Hullets prove to be too sharp for UDT
The Hullets side captained by Herman Steyn dominated the season, ending top of the log after the round-robin stages and threw pin-point accurate darts to add another title under their belt
IT was a repeat of the previous final played earlier this year with an identical outcome, when Hullets beat UDT 6-2 in the Empangeni Social Darts League finals played at Hullets on Wednesday evening.
The Hullets side captained by Herman Steyn dominated the season, ending top of the log after the round-robin stages and threw pin-point accurate darts to add another title under their belt.
The host team was on fire, delivering sensational darts which saw numerous triples and doubles being hit with ease.
Highlights on the night were as follows – Marcel Jansen closing 123 (trip 19, 16, cherry) in his 501 match-up, Kevin Jordan throwing 140 in 501, Naas Strydom hitting 140 in 501 and Jerry Bezuidenhout hitting 100 and 140 in his 501 game.
Action started off with a cricket game, which saw Hullets taking an early 1-0 lead after scoring 433 and ‘bowling’ UDT out for 168.

The lead got extended to 2-zip, after Steyn and Mike Bekker brushed off UDT captain Peter Loots and Strydom in a nomination killer game, that saw the Hullets captain hitting a number of triples and dominating the game.
The score was taken to 3-0, when Bezuidenhout and Chuch Pereira beat UDT’s Johnny Laufs and Angus MacRae in a narrow nomination killer match-up.
UDT father and son combo Neill and Kevin Jordan, got their side onto the board when beating Jansen and Henning de Wet in a nomination killer game that saw the latter come from behind to win.
The Jordan combination proved too strong again, when the duo beat Steyn and Bekker in a 501 match-up that saw Kevin hit 140 and close on a double 19 to take the score to 3-2.
But that is where the resistance ended, as the home side got their ‘flights up’ and took it home, with Bezuidenhout and Pereira beating Strydom and Loots in 501, Jansen and De Wet beating Laufs and MacRae in 501 and Steyn and Bekker beating Laufs and MacRae in nomination killer.
With the score at 3-2, Strydom and Loots had two opportunities each to close double 16 and failed, with Pereira closing double 2 to hand his team a point.
That was the turning point in the match-up, as things could have been tied up at that stage.

Being 4-2 up, then gave confidence to the Hullets side, which resulted in Jansen closing 123 in his 501 match to extend the score to 5-2.
It was fitting that the last game was played by Steyn and Bekker, as Steyn will be off to New Zealand later this year.
The captain ended his darts career by closing his nomination killer game with a double 10 to bring the curtain down on an impressive career and hand his side another title.
This was the last league of the year, with the new one starting up early next year.
