Mtubatuba community activist down-and-out
Jan Mabuyakhulu needs help finishing the building of his home
JAN Mabuyakhulu, the Mtubatuba man who has walked 1 000 miles to raise awareness of women and child abuse, is himself in a desperate situation.
After making numerous appeals to both government departments and local businesses to help with the donation of materials to build his house, it is now complete up to window level and he has run out of blocks.
This, after being forced to move in to his brother’s house when the roof of his single room started letting in the rain and wind.
With not enough blocks to complete the job, Jan is unable to move into his new home, and is also unable to stay with his brother for much longer.
‘I have been living with my brother in his house, but now his family is returning and I must move out,’ said Jan.
‘I do not know where I will go, or how I can provide a roof over my wife and children’s heads.’
Every year Jan makes headlines as he walks the province and beyond, holding anti-rape educational awareness talks at schools, churches and government departments.

Yet the man who does this for no pay is unable to at least enjoy the comforts of a roof over his head, a warm bed to sleep in at night and food on the table.
While he is looking for work, this, too, is scarce.
If anyone is able to help Jan either complete his home or in buying food, he can be contacted on 079 4370138.
