Walking the talk for SANCA
As always, there was a good turnout from local schools, both primary and secondary, with all learners getting into the spirit of what the walk stands for
DESPITE early-morning heavy rains threatening to dampen proceedings, the annual SANCA/Baywatch Eyethu Walk Away from Drugs on Saturday morning drew large response, with more than 800 participants.
As always, there was a good turnout from local schools, both primary and secondary, with all learners getting into the spirit of what the walk stands for.
‘The high number of school-going age youngsters attending the event each year really pleases us, as co-organisers of the event, as it means our anti-drug, anti-substance abuse message gets through to them at a young age,’ said Zululand Observer Editor-in-Chief, Dave Savides.
‘Without mentioning anyone by name at this stage, we also once again, saw tremendous support and sponsorship from industry and businesses that sponsored the prizes, as well as buy-in from all schools.

‘The smooth execution of the event was the result of a great collaborative effort from all stakeholders, including City of uMhlathuze Traffic.’
SANCA Zululand Director, Shireen Sahadev, shared her message with the learners:
‘We hold events like this to raise awareness of the dangers of substance abuse and would like to encourage all of you to not give in to peer pressure, and to stand up for what you believe in.
‘Substance abuse ruins lives, tears families apart, and we would like to see more youngsters aware of the dangers and saying no before it is too late.
‘Your future is at stake.’
