IN a place of poverty, unemployment and crime, a group of female pensioners are making a difference and creating employment.
More than 20 old ladies from Ward 19 in eSikhaleni launched their handwork community initiative on Monday.

Their project includes bead work, making footwear, traditional gear as well as church and school uniforms.
These skilled crafters also make handbags and other materials such as sofa covers.

The group have taught each other the various skills with the hope of generating income and create employment opportunities in the community.

With Heritage Month only weeks away, this group of pensioners hope to sell their products to maidens and others in need of traditional wear.
