AN accused serial rapist on Friday pleaded guilty to two of the five charges brought against him, and will be sentenced on Wednesday at the Mtubatuba Regional Court.
Phathizizwe Sibusiso Sibiya (37) last year went on a rape spree before he was eventually arrested in October.
Targeting women waiting for lifts at the roadside, Sibiya reportedly lured his victims into his vehicle after promising them a lift.
He then drove them to the bush where he raped them.
Threatening them with a screwdriver, Sibiya told his victims he would kill them if they reported the rapes.
According to Mtubatuba SAPS Communications Officer, Captain Justice Hlabisa, Sibiya also told each victim that he committed the rapes because their families had killed his.
Among the victims was a pregnant woman who, at the time of her rape, was waiting for a taxi after she had been to the clinic for a check-up.
Sibiya has a long rap sheet dating back to 1996, for which he was previously convicted for various crimes, including theft, house breaking, robbery and rape.
Hlabisa said it is disturbing that, while Sibiya was convicted and sentenced for previous crimes, his time in prison did not rehabilitate him, as is obvious from the the progression of his crimes.
