Air Force shows its might
The Chief of the Air Force, Lt Gen Fabian (Zakes) Msimang, visited the base at the Mkhuze airport
READERS, especially around the town of Mkuze, will have heard an increase in South African Air Force air traffic around the area over the last few weeks.
The activity was the result of Exercise Winter Solstice, which is part of the joint South African National Defence Force (SANDF) Exercise Ndlovu.
The Chief of the Air Force, Lt Gen Fabian (Zakes) Msimang, visited the base at the Mkhuze airport on Saturday, where he addressed the members on various issues and thanked them for their contribution to the force.
He also gave a briefing to the media and uMkhanyakhude Municipal councillors.
A fly past with three Griffons, based in Hoedspruit, was a highlight of the tour.
Winter Solstice is part of Exercise Ndlovu, which sees the SA Army, Air Force, Navy and SA Medical Health Service focusing on operations that are specific to their line of responsibility.
The Exercise is in preparation of the upcoming 2019 National Elections.
The SAAF will utilise the Exercise as an opportunity to measure and improve on its combat readiness, flexibility and quick reaction in order to exploit the full potential of air power.
The exercises wrap up on Thursday, 24 August.
