John Ross Highway repair underway

The dangerous section was first noticed in February and the lane has been closed to traffic since then

IT will take about three weeks to fix the ‘sinkhole’ on the John Ross Parkway near Woodchip Glade.

Construction crews arrived on scene last week to effect repairs on the westbound carriageway, between East Central Arterial and Foskor.

The dangerous section was first noticed in February and the lane has been closed to traffic since then.

The extent of the large cavity below the road surface poses major danger to the many heavy vehicles using the highway every day

The cause was attributed to the eroding away of the backfill material adjacent to a box culvert.

Storm water was able to flow under the road, leaving a large cavity under the tarmac.

The regional Department of Transport is handling the rehabilitation.
